I don’t agree so, she is talking about her teammates don’t use English when doing teamworks. As English is the official language of the university, using official language when you have a non-local student is not only courtesy but a responsibility. Would you speak Cantonese to your foreign professor (who knows English only) outside the classroom?
I DO agree that outsiders should learn SOME Cantonese as a lubricant for social integration, but I don’t expect they could achieved such a high standard (in just few years) that they could use Cantonese for study and academic discussion.
That is shame that our local students refused to use official language to communicate with their fellow students.
The dispute between HK and Mainland China or the resistance of the cultural invasion of China’s, should not resulted to discrimination. Otherwise what’s the difference between us and the Mainlanders (that locals usually saying they are xenophobic and irrational)? And who we claim that we are an international city?
